BC CASA mobilizes for May 18 GOLDCORP Meeting in Vancouver

By admin - Posted on 17 April 2011

BC CASA has joined with other Vancouver groups to form the Mining Justice Alliance (MJA), a coalition that is organizing a week of events and actions to coincide with Vancouver mining giant GOLDCORP's annual general meeting May 18.

GOLDCORP's mining and exploration activities in Guatemala have generated serious conflicts in several parts of the country. The Mining Justice Alliance will be teaming up with CAMIGUA, a North America-wide coalition that supports Guatemalan communities affected by GOLDCORP, to bring representatives of affected communities to the May 18 AGM. Representatives of communities impacted by Goldcrop in other Latin American countries also plan to attend.

The MJA plans a week of film screenings, workshops, cultural activities and demonstrations to provide a forum for affected communities to tell their stories, to protest GOLDCORP's activities in Guatemala, and to raise awareness of the growing domination of the Canadian State by resource extraction transnationals.
